Here in Rocky it's been really steamy and hot this past month, with temps getting as high as 40 degrees. Insane!!! But this past week has seen cooler breezes in the mornings and late afternoons to the point that when I am heading out the door at 5.30am it feels kind of crisp. I love the mornings when they are like this. It's so refreshing.
It's not just the coolness though, that I love. It's the feeling of newness that seems to float right on in the with the breeze. I always feel a sense of energy, almost like mother nature is giving me a little energise. I kind of feel inspired for change and want to explore what the season holds for me.
Our oldest daughter Sariah, is insanely beautiful, inside and out. She has a zest for life and loves being outside and exploring. Sariah also happens to love sunflowers. So they seemed the perfect combination for the inspiration I needed to create my next canvas.
I used a variety of papers and tissue papers and just started adhering the torn pieces down with gel medium. Once the base was dry I went about smudging paints, playing with stencils, inks and gesso. I think this part is one of my favourites because you can see the layers transform. I added the centre of my sunflower using tissue paper and then I painted in some base petals. And after a lot of cutting out I stuck down my petals, outlined them with my orange gelato and finally I dry brushed some burnt umber acrylic paint, then scraped on some gesso for extra texture.
I hope this gives you some inspiration to get your hands all painty messy and create your own favourite bloom!!
